jump to repliesMy raspberry pi 5 is the most unreliable machine I own. It goes offline / dead randomly after months of uptime. I literally use it for nothing more than an IRC shell. I always keep it updated and reboot when needed (kernel update). But so many times I try to ssh in and itβs just dead. Ridiculous.
I think I might reflash it with a fresh OS. What do people recommend for an 8GB (memory) one of these? Iβve just been using their standard Linux which is some repackaged Debian.

Update: new power supply arrived that is specifically for the Raspberry Pi 5. Now to use and evaluate to see if stability comes.

Update 2: this same Raspberry Pi died. I didn't have a console cable so I couldn't exactly diagnose why. But no amount of reboots would bring it back. I eventually just re-flashed the SD card with a fresh install and now it is fine (used the same SD card which reports it is totally fine and seems to work perfectly still).
Todo:
Track down a serial console for next fail.
Get a M.2 HAT+ and a NVMe disk

back to top@bryan cheapest (if that's still a thing...) SATA SSD on usb3 is what changed my fragile Pi's running from SD-cards in real computers that can take a power outage without dying.
@bryan This week I bought a pair of used chinese fanless POS* PCs for ~190 USD (256gb SSD, 16 GB DDR3 Ram). Only cpu is weak (core I5-7200U , that's 2/4 cores) .
* as in Point Of Sale though all interpretations are open :-)
Still they run Proxmox + PBS fine and the benchmarks for this CPU are close to the Pi 5.
And all it lacked was the powerbrick (center negative though !!). Also seller thought it was a 4200U.
