my #gotosocial install has a 13GB #SQLite database now. I don't mind but I annoyingly need to attach a bigger block device to my Droplet at #DigitalOcean. Time to migrate to a #RaspberryPi. Just need to order a M.2 or NVMe disk / HAT for it to use... although I do have an old Time Machine SSD that could work over USB-C? But... probably will draw too much power? 🤔
50GB attached storage in a Droplet is like $5/month 😤

I have either older SATA usb  small SSD or Oricio UFS disks (from alixpress) that give decent results on a Pi.
Though for anything I care about really now I have gone proxmox. I started with intel miniPCs that in the end are cheaper than a Pi when you consider the VMs you can run on all (I still have hosted stuff for either pro stuff or one non-metered frontend VM that I use to expose all my home hostead stuff (behind CGNAT)
@santi I’m a bit irritated that getting a little HAT means I need a new case and heatsink. Not even sure if I’ll also get power issues. #RaspberryPi
Also my home internet is a sad 25Mbit upload. Probably doing this isn’t realistic. Will probably need to pay for hosting until a move to a better apartment with fiber (no eta unfortunately).
@bryan Yeah 25 Mbits is a bit rough these days, especially if shared with other people.I have 700/400 fiber here in the middle of the forest but all locked down by CGNAT so it's semi-luxury.
@bryan I'm careful with RPIs since I've had multiple incidents where the SD card just died on me. Did you try to change the settings of media cache etc. to reduce the storage usage? I'm down to 435MB, but my GTS instance isn't my main Fedi account 🤔
@graves I’m running in DigitalOcean right now on the $6 1GB memory & 25GB storage. Media is going to Spaces (S3) and it’s in a steady state of about 220GB. The Spaces storage is pretty cheap.
If I switch to Raspberry Pi I’d use the NVMe HAT / Disk and I’d continue to use Spaces for media storage… that’s a built in CDN as well.
I’m not really convinced the #RaspberryPi will have enough power if I slap on a HAT and a 128GB NVMe disk. Hoping someone has one of these setups already. I’m looking at buying this:

Check the ways to store only your content and delete the federated contents or federated media alone.
