Last night I had a dream I was at an #Apple Store and I noticed some dude came in to pickup his new Mac Studio. He looked at the box and noticed it was scrapped and so declined to take it and got a refund.
After he left the store, I quickly jumped over to the tech asking, "hey how much is that? maybe I'll buy it!". Apple guy was like, "about $12k" (note: this price is dream nonsense). Without thinking I immediately say I'll take it. All I could think about was oodles of RAM.
I get home, realize I never asked what the specs were and get worried... Open the box and realize it is a M5 Max with just 48GB of ram and like 8TB SSD. I was so pissed I woke up. Took me a good 30min to fall back to sleep I was so angry someone would buy 8TB of storage from Apple.
American-style #tipping are gaining ground in Netherlands. Glad our exports are making inroads… 🤦🏼♂️

Came across this #GoLang Dev mailing list post about #AI tool usage, and it seems a bit tighter(?) than the #Linux Kernel. In the kernel, they want attribution of the model and other metadata as a Co-Author. But in #Go, it seems they have a don’t ask, don’t tell policy. If an AI tool is used, they do not want any Co-Author line and will ask for it to be removed before merging.
Effectively, both projects are fine with AI tools being used, but attribution seems to be taken differently.

Still trying to decide if this is good, bad, or ugly. This #HomeLab setup is a tangled web of so many different things. Enjoyed the reading journey... #homeserver #selfhosting

Huh. There is a sauce called “Ant Sauce” made with 🐜. Supposed to be similar to soy sauce. I follow someone on Mastodon that’s really into ants. Should I @ her? 🤔 #ants

Was looking at containrrr/watchtower:latest in my #docker and realized the last updated was 2 years ago. Looks like the developer abandoned the project when he didn't get help to fix all the issues/bugs reported... We are about halfway towards our goal of picking up enough new subscriptions to give our staff, authors, translators, and artists a raise when we publish our 20th anniversary issue in October. Thanks to all who have signed up and/or boosted the signal.

The skits Sam Neill did during COVID lock down were very entertaining.

I wish software would take clues from game design and have an official end or completion with a credits roll. like one day you’re using salesforce and then this appears:
My raspberry pi 5 is the most unreliable machine I own. It goes offline / dead randomly after months of uptime. I literally use it for nothing more than an IRC shell. I always keep it updated and reboot when needed (kernel update). But so many times I try to ssh in and it’s just dead. Ridiculous.
I think I might reflash it with a fresh OS. What do people recommend for an 8GB (memory) one of these? I’ve just been using their standard Linux which is some repackaged Debian.

Was watching random episodes of Family Ties. I remember as a kid really loving that show. But recently watch of the later seasons really bug me. They all trash on Nick openly and it’s kind of a sad undertone to the show. I didn’t notice that aspect at all when I was young. Just doesn’t even make sense from a writing standpoint… the parents are hippies and all full of love… except for Nick? WTF.
For reference I bought a cheap projector and it had the Pluto.app. This was the first show I recognized and watched like 5 episodes in a row from season 7. The 3-episode block “Heartstrings” was good except for poor Nick.

The screenshot wasn't enough for me so I dug up the article. What a weird hobby to role-play being an American hick.

Kelsey Pfendler had nearly 44 days alone in a little boat at sea to ponder the lesson she wanted to share.
