I think the title of this blog is a bit misleading. There was definitely a lot of setup and there is still “15 min” of administrative work going on. But a good list of things one can do to maintain a server for their #selfhosting #homelab

@bryan I’m challenging the 60s claim for apt commands on a Raspberry Pi 4… That’s when there is nothing to do! Otherwise, it’s probably an hour or so

Yeah I agree but also giving him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he only has minimal install? Headless so no X11 or Wayland? He explicitly stated running apt update so… yeah. 60s is tough but unlikely.
I use unattended updates to keep everything automatically updated and systemd/bounced… but kernel changes are something I do manually for my Raspberry Pi 4 & 5. I get the kernel updated after an email from unattended-updates then I just ssh in and reboot.

Right after burning an sdcard (RaspiOS without desktop) I usually do the apt commands, and that takes about an hour every time
Granted that’s a Pi Zero so it’s like the Pi 2 in computing power
