Reading about hosting my own IMAP server (no SMTP). Just to move old mail archives there directly from my client(s) using IMAP copy.

Idea is to keep last two years in live fastmail / gmail account and just move out older email to frozen accounts I can’t still add in Thunderbird . I can’t really delete @ gmail about but I am progressively phasing out usage.

I’d run Dovevot in a (backuped) proxmox LXC with my own certificates as it’s meant to be read only.

@santi
I do a sync every week or so as a backup for the random day when #Google will suddenly cancel their free domain email. I use #imapsync. It’s on #brew or some #Linux distros. Also use #dovecot on a local email server I run.

I’d get off Gmail domains but paying for cloud storage to hold the email would cost money compared to the free Gmail… #thrifty
