My apartment is wired with cat6, but I’m having difficulty figuring out where (or if there still is) a closet with a breadboard somewhere to wire up switch etc. Spectrum has some kind of monopoly agreement with the building, so maybe that’s why we are stuck with meh internet over cable? 😖

The sheer amount of #spam I get on other social networks is really unbelievable. How are basic filters not just killing these “exclusive cryptocurrency club” invites constantly flowing?

Even #Gmail is stuffed with this crap… at least it normally stays in the junk folder. But the origin/sender is often some crazy nonsense junk bot user from Gmail… how is #Google so bad at this?

It’s criminal. #DigitalOcean makes each droplet spun up #IPv4 only by default. You have to specifically make sure the #IPv6 checkbox is selected, or you’re stuck with v4 without a bunch of annoying steps to get v6 working later. Infuriating.

I really don’t understand why v6 isn’t on by default. Terrible. End rant.

IBM and Google think a commercially-relevant (“industrial scale”) #quantum computer will be available by the end of the decade; AWS thinks it’s still 15-30 years away. Author talks to Microsoft, Rigetti, and some others as well, and covers the trade offs of various modalities (superconducting, neutral atom, trapped ion, etc).

Given there are real, useful business problems you can run *today* on quantum computer that show 80x advantage vs classical (see the most recent episode of Entangled Things), I think we will see an evolution of what’s already in place. Factoring RSA is probably 7-10 years out though; the problems well-suited to today’s hardware and constraints are mostly optimization problems.

Was going to migrate this dusty.ninja from east-coast DigitalOcean to west-coast, but new #Debian release coming Saturday has me delaying until I can use that.
