I enjoyed this read for the building a big box for own use. I have not built anything beyond snapping together Raspberry Pi parts for almost 20 years now. All my computer purchases had been prebuilt systems like MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, or a HP Pro.

Friend in #Saipan finally got power restored after 35 days. Same (or just the same time?) storms we had in #Hawaii over a month ago. Local utility is raising their rates about 40% due to oil prices. Another 20% hike is expected soon to fully restore the grid, along with some modernization.

Pretty good argument for just using #openrouter over a #LocalLLM. I think the math will change once all these AI providers stop burning VC money. Specifically, the author is looking at rounded-up utility and hardware pricing on #Apple Silicon.

I’ve been spending time trying to get rapid-mlx to work on the Mac mini. It’s supposed to be much faster than llama.cpp, but I’ve had nothing but problems. Hope it is just a learning curve on the right mix of parameters. Defaults definitely don’t seem to be dialed in like llama-server. #opencode #rapidmlx #llamacpp
